The Perfect 2-Week Sri Lanka Itinerary
A loop route covering beaches, culture, and wildlife.
Sri Lanka is deceptively small, but its diversity is vast. A two-week trip is the perfect amount of time to see the highlights without rushing. This classic loop allows you to experience the cultural north, the cool highlands, and the tropical south.
The Route
- Days 1-3: Colombo & The Cultural Triangle. Land in Colombo and head straight to Sigiriya. Climb the rock at sunrise and visit Dambulla Cave Temple.
- Days 4-6: Kandy to Ella. Visit the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy before taking the scenic train to Ella. Spend a few days hiking Little Adam's Peak and visiting tea estates.
- Days 7-9: Yala National Park. Descend from the hills to the dry zone for a safari to spot leopards and elephants.
- Days 10-13: The South Coast. Relax in Mirissa or Unawatuna. Go whale watching, surf, or explore the historic Galle Fort.
- Days 14: Colombo. Enjoy a sunset drink at the Galle Face Hotel before your flight.
This itinerary covers roughly 500km and mixes adventure with relaxation. Hiring a private driver is the most convenient way to get around, as public transport can be slow.
